Wednesday, March 13th, Business Angels Europe and Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland (BAND), the German federation of Angel Investing, organised the 3rd BAE Business Angels Europe Conference on Angel Investment Research. Researchers and academics specialized or interested in Angel Investment research from all over Europe came together to continue the research dialogue about angel investment research and to strengthen their scientific community where ProEntranse has participated.
Topics such as acquiring angels, promoting start-ups, tax data, and visible and invisible market were discussed. Through the discussion it has been pointed out that even though there was and incredible amount of research of over 20 years, much work still needs to be done. Researchers from over 10 countries came and discussed the situation in each of their respective countries. It has been pointed out that the lack of access to data and lack of cooperation from the governments is a major setback when it comes to having a complete data base of angels, number of investment and start-ups.
Another important topic that has been discussed is Women as angels. Marie-Elisabeth Rusling, CEO Business Angels Europe (BAE), Brussels, Belgium is currently working to find out more about how to acquire more women in the industry. Only about 6% of the total investors are women, and most of them do not have enough knowledge on how to be an angel, that is why special training and classes are being organized in order to educate that even the men would like to attend.
The event ended with a panel talk and discussion between Luigi Amati, President BAE Business Angels Europe, Brussels, Peter Cowley, President European Business Angel Network (EBAN), Brussels and Dr. Georg Licht, Head of Research Dept. Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics, ZEW, Mannheim, Germany. The event concluded with suggestions of how better the research on angels and a promise to organize another conference very soon.
